The human brain functions with the help of the nervous system and helps in the physical and mental development of the individual. The human brain and nervous system are so complex that the more we know about them, the less it seems; however, people have very little information about these two. In this article we will learn about the human brain and nervous system.

What is the brain?

The brain is the most complex organ of the human body. It is the center of consciousness and also controls all voluntary and involuntary movements and bodily functions. The human brain communicates with every part of the body through the central nervous system, or CNS, a network of channels that carry electrochemical signals. A human brain weighs 1300 to 1400 grams and performs all its functions through the nervous system.


How many parts of the brain are there?

The brain is made up of three main sections: the forebrain, the midbrain, and the hindbrain.
Forebrain:- The forebrain is the largest and most complex part of the brain. It has all the folds and grooved areas that you typically see in pictures of the brain. Besides, there are some other structures below it, of which the cerebrum is considered to be the most important.

The cerebrum, the most important part of the brain, contains the information that essentially defines who we are: our intelligence, memory, personality, emotion, speech, and ability to feel and move. Specific areas of the cerebrum are in charge of processing these different types of information. These are called lobes, which have four parts – frontal, parietal, temporal and occipital lobes.

Midbrain: The midbrain, below the middle of the forebrain, acts as a master coordinator in the spinal cord for all messages going in and out of the brain. Due to the midbrain containing the pons and medulla, it is often called the brainstem. The brainstem collects, sends messages from the brain, and coordinates the body. It also controls many automatic functions of the body, such as breathing, heart rate, blood pressure, swallowing, digestion and blinking, etc. These are all the functions that go on in the body all the time.

Hindbrain: The hindbrain is located below the posterior end of the cerebrum. It includes the cerebellum, pons and medulla. The cerebellum is also called the “little brain”, because it looks like a smaller version of the cerebrum. This small brain works to create balance, movement and coordination.

What is the nervous system?

The nervous system controls everything you do, including breathing, moving, thinking, and feeling. This system is made up of your brain, spinal cord, and all the nerves in your body. The brain is the control center and the spinal cord is the main path to and from the brain. Nerves carry messages to the body and allow the brain to interpret them and take action. The nervous system also controls how the body responds to emergencies, among other functions.


What is the relationship between brain and nervous system?

A person needs a healthy brain and healthy nervous system for his physical and mental development. While the brain plays the role of a computer, the nervous system works like a network to transmit information to the brain. Just as the nervous system transmits information to the brain through its network, in the same way the brain orders the body to perform actions. For example, if you touch a hot object, the nervous system sends this information to the brain and you immediately move away from that hot object. It takes less than a moment for the nervous system to perform this task. But if any one of the brain and nervous system does not work properly then it starts causing serious problems. A serious problem for a person is the inability of his nervous system to function properly.


How does the nervous system work?

The basic functioning of the nervous system depends heavily on tiny cells called neurons. There are billions of neurons in the brain and each neuron has many specific functions. You can understand this through two examples, as sensory neurons send information from the eyes, ears, nose, tongue and skin to the brain and motor neurons carry messages from the brain to the rest of the body. However, all neurons share information with each other through a complex electrochemical process, forming connections that influence the way we think, learn, move, and behave.

Intelligence, learning, and memory – these are the three things in which as we develop, we learn it better and the messages travel from one neuron to another so that it is stored in the brain. Make connections or pathways. Therefore, when someone learns driving for the first time, it takes more concentration, but after learning, it automatically gets incorporated in our behavior, due to which the neurons easily send messages to the brain. At the same time, small children learn faster than adults, because older people have less capacity to learn. This happens because after a certain age, older people stop using their brain and are unable to take the limits of learning further. There are many reasons behind this happening, including busy life and lack of concentration. That’s why many scientists believe it’s important to keep challenging the brain to learn new things and make new connections – it helps keep the brain active throughout life.

Motion – Different parts of the cerebrum move different parts of the body. The left side of the brain controls the movements of the right side of the body, and the right side of the brain controls the movements of the left side of the body. For example, when you press the accelerator of your car with your right foot, it is the left side of your brain that sends you the message to do so.

Basic Body Function – A part of the peripheral nervous system called the autonomic nervous system controls many body processes that we almost never need to think about, such as breathing, Digestion, sweating and shivering.

Sympathetic nervous system – This prepares the body for sudden stress, for example, if you see something bad happening, your body’s feelings change accordingly. For example – when something frightening happens, the sympathetic nervous system causes the heart to beat faster so that it can quickly send blood to different parts of the body that may need it.

Parasympathetic nervous system – This nervous system works exactly opposite to the sympathetic nervous system, it prepares the body for rest.

Senses – A total of five senses work in our body, due to which we can feel all those things in our life which are perhaps difficult to express in words. There are total five senses in our body as described below:-

Sight – This sense helps us to see.

Sound – Because of this sense our ears are able to hear.

Taste – This sense gives us proper information about taste through the tongue. Because of this, we come to know whether what we are eating is sweet, sour, salty, bitter and salty.

Smell – This sense works through the nose and provides us with information about all smells.

Touch – With the help of this sense we collect information related to touch, pressure, temperature and pain. This sense performs its function through the skin.

It is not that our nervous system always works properly. It happens quite often that a person may have to face problems related to the nervous system. The problem related to the nervous system can be for some time or it can be forever, this problem is called nervous system breakdown in common language.

What is a nervous system breakdown and what causes it?

A nervous breakdown or nervous breakdown (also commonly called a mental breakdown) is a term that describes a period of extreme mental or emotional stress to a person. Any stress is so great that a person is not able to perform normal day-to-day tasks. The term “nervous breakdown” is not clinical, nor is it a mental health disorder. This can sometimes indicate an underlying problem like depression or anxiety.
Talking about the reasons behind nervous breakdown, its root cause cannot be told properly, because the reason behind nervous system breakdown of every person is different. Nervous breakdown shows it is caused by stress. Nevertheless, following are some reasons which can cause nervous breakdown:-

What are the symptoms of nervous system breakdown?

It is certain that whenever there is a problem, its symptoms are definitely visible. But the condition is that we can identify it at the right time. We can divide the symptoms seen due to nervous system breakdown into three parts which are as follows:-

  • Change in behavior

How can nervous system breakdown be corrected?

If you or someone close to you is suffering from a nervous system breakdown, then first of all you should accept this. It is often seen in Indian families that they do not accept mental problems, they believe that such a thing does not exist. Well, now people are becoming aware about this and are also worried about it. In case of nervous breakdown, treatment can be taken in three ways: –
